Salvē — Welcome

Latin the way it was actually spoken — heard, understood, lived.

I'm Traci Dougherty, known to my students as Mageesh. Step into a Latin classroom where ancient language comes alive through story, movement, and genuine connection — built on comprehensible input, not memorized paradigms.

What makes our Latin different

Four principles shape every lesson, drawn from second-language acquisition research and two decades in the classroom.

Storytelling & drama

Students act out Roman myths and historical events instead of translating them line by line.

Comprehensible input

Language is acquired through understanding real messages — not memorizing rules in advance of using them.

Neurodiversity friendly

Movement, games, and multiple entry points welcome every kind of learner, including me.

A caring community

Stress is the enemy of acquisition. Every student's progress and comfort matter here.

A day in the classroom

Latin as a living language, not a code to crack

Students step into a room built for acquisition: stories read aloud, movement and games, spoken exchanges, and texts pitched just past their comfort. Grammar is something we notice inside real language — never a wall to climb before the reading begins.

  • Comprehensible input at the center of every lesson
  • Movement, TPR, and game-based practice
  • A caring, low-anxiety space for neurodiverse learners
